Stallion Learning Centre: Building Professional Security Careers

Since its founding in 1998, the Stallion Learning Centre has evolved from an internal training hub into a world-class institution dedicated to professional development in the security industry. From the start, its primary goal was simple and practical: to ensure every new recruit is trained to meet the highest standards. Over nearly three decades, that mission has expanded into a comprehensive suite of accredited courses that prepare individuals for long-term careers and raise service quality across the sector.

A full spectrum of accredited training sits at the heart of the Centre’s offering. Courses range from PSIRA Grades E through A to Sasseta learnership programmes for Security Practices (SPO1 and SPO2), covering both theoretical knowledge and practical skills. The Centre provides specialized instruction in National Key Point procedures, firearm training (handgun, rifle, shotgun, carbine), Firearm Regulation 21 compliance, basic first aid, firefighting, riot control, event security and management, and close protection. Through its SAQA-recognized pathways, the Centre supports national qualification levels from NQF1 to NQF10, enabling clear progression routes for ambitious learners.

One of the Stallion Learning Centre’s most notable achievements is its learnership programme. Since 2015 the Centre has placed thousands of learners into meaningful employment: over the past four years alone, more than 5,400 incumbents completed learnerships, averaging upward of 1,300 new employees annually. Stallion not only trains candidates but pays them during training and then hires them at Grade C level when they enter the field, ensuring a smooth transition from classroom to workplace. This model both addresses industry skills shortages and gives employers immediate access to highly competent staff.

Quality and scale are matched by accessibility. The Centre operates accredited facilities in Johannesburg, Pretoria, Cape Town, and Middelburg, and can host up to 300 students at a time in Johannesburg across ten classrooms. A team of 17 qualified facilitators, supported by a layered management structure including a Training General Manager and PSIRA Training Manager, maintains rigorous training standards and administrative excellence. Stallion also offers criminal-check services and non-accredited refresher courses tailored to companies wanting concise upskilling for existing staff.

Stallion’s investment in people is substantial: the company provides training and stipends valued at around R70 million annually, reflecting a strategic commitment to social upliftment and workforce development. That investment is delivered with competitive pricing designed to democratize access to high-quality training rather than maximize profit. Further, the Centre’s in-house Supervisory Development Programme (SDP) and Management Development Programme (MDP) support career progression, and the team is pursuing Services SETA accreditation to formalize these valuable offerings.

By combining accredited qualifications, practical on-the-job preparation, and a pathway to employment, the Stallion Learning Centre has transformed how security officers enter the industry. The result is a steady supply of well-trained, reliable personnel for client sites and a meaningful opportunity ladder for learners. For employers and students alike, Stallion represents a trusted partner in building safer environments and stronger careers.
