AFGRI is excited to announce an Apprenticeship Program for 40 dynamic individuals at our various branches across South Africa. This is an excellent opportunity for self-motivated candidates eager to qualify as Artisans in the agricultural sector. The program offers hands-on training, mentorship from industry leaders, and a chance to develop skills in a supportive environment.

Program Overview

  • Duration: 3 years of in-service training
  • Qualification: Tractor or Earthmoving Mechanic
  • Initial Phase: 6-month probation period to assess mutual fit, during which either party may withdraw without consequence.
  • Contract: Following probation, apprentices will be bound by an AFGRI contract for the remaining duration of the apprenticeship.

 

Training Components

  • Practical Training Institute: Hands-on training as required.
  • Distance Learning: Enrollment in N2 subjects (Mathematics, Engineering Science, Diesel Trade Theory, and one additional subject) with classes potentially on Saturdays.
  • Product Training: Conducted at the John Deere Training Facility in Boksburg and other suppliers, alongside internal training by AFGRI specialists.

Duties of the Apprentice

  • Learn to be a Mechanic/Technician.
  • Repair and maintain agricultural or earthmoving equipment.
  • Manage stock control.
  • Provide excellent customer service.
  • Perform general workplace tasks.

 

Minimum Requirements

  • Education:
    • Valid Driver’s License
    • N2 subjects: Mathematics, Engineering Science, Diesel Trade Theory, and one of the following:
      • Industrial Electronics
      • Engineering/Technical Drawing
      • Motor Trade Theory
    • Alternatively, a Matric Certificate with relevant subjects (Mathematics, Physical Science) will be considered.
  • Skills:
    • Strong communication and administrative skills.
    • Computer literacy.

 

Behavioral Competencies

  • Highly motivated individual with attention to detail.
  • Team player who is goal-oriented and deadline-driven.
