Sasol’s 2026 Fire Fighter Learnership offers a life-changing opportunity for motivated South Africans to train as professional firefighters within one of the country’s leading energy and chemical companies. With 14 positions available—6 in Secunda and 8 in Sasolburg—this fixed-term programme equips participants with essential firefighting knowledge, hands-on rescue training, and nationally recognized qualifications.

 

The learnership’s primary aim is to develop competent fire fighters ready for industrial emergency services. Learners undergo workplace readiness activities, classroom instruction, and practical fire-and-rescue training covering fire prevention, emergency response, rescue operations, and suppression techniques. Successful completion prepares participants to pursue careers as professional firefighters, with skills in hazard control, safety and risk management, and emergency response in industrial environments.

 

Key Requirements

Applicants must be between 18 and 29 years old, reside in Sasol local communities (Secunda or Sasolburg), and hold a completed National Senior Certificate (Grade 12/Matric) with passes in Technical Mathematics/Mathematics, English/Business English, and Technical/Physical Science. A Code B or higher driver’s license is mandatory. Candidates must pass a firefighter fitness assessment and stress/fear tests for heights, confined spaces, fire exposure, and cat ladders.

 

Programme Details

The learnership runs for approximately 24 months as a fixed-term contract aligned with the programme duration. Participants receive a monthly stipend of R5,961.83 while training. The programme focuses exclusively on fire fighting, providing intensive theoretical and practical exposure.
