Role overview
You will support daily store operations in one or more of the following roles: Checkout Assistant, Shelfpacker (Wine, Groceries, General Merchandise, Perishables, Clothing), Warehouse/Stockroom Assistant, Service Area Assistant (Bakery, Butchery, Deli, Fruit & Veg, Cheese), Production Assistant, or Blockman. Duties vary by role but focus on superior customer service, accurate stock handling and maintaining store standards.
Key responsibilities
Deliver friendly, efficient service at tills; scan items accurately and handle payments (Checkout Assistant).
Unpack deliveries, price and stack shelves, rotate stock using FIFO, keep displays tidy (Shelfpackers).
Receive and store deliveries, move cartons safely, pick replenishment for the shop floor and maintain accurate stock records (Warehouse/Stockroom Assistant).
Prepare, portion, label and present food items; assist with slicing, baking or packing in line with store specifications and hygiene rules (Service Area & Production Assistants).
Operate block-cutting tasks safely and follow portioning instructions where required (Blockman).
Maintain health, safety and food-safety standards, clean work areas and report any product or equipment issues.
Assist customers with product questions, locating items and bagging purchases.
What we’re looking for
Reliable, punctual, and hardworking team players.
Good communication skills and basic numeracy.
Ability to work standing shifts, lift up to 20–25 kg, and follow safety procedures.
Flexibility to work early mornings, evenings, weekends and public holidays as rostered.
Prior retail, food-handling or warehouse experience preferred but not essential; on-the-job training provided.
Valid food handler certificate or willingness to obtain one is an advantage for service-area roles.
