Spread the love

Rand Water opens doors for young school leavers with its Public Service Administrator Learnership Programme (NQF Level 5), offering an opportunity to gain workplace experience and a nationally recognised qualification. Based at the Rietvlei site in Glenvista, Gauteng, this learnership responds to South Africa’s urgent need for skills development while supporting Rand Water’s mission to supply safe, potable water to millions across the economic heartland.

The programme targets unemployed South African citizens between 18 and 35 who hold a Matric certificate and meet specific subject requirements. Applicants must have Mathematics (minimum Level 4) or Maths Literacy (minimum Level 5) paired with either Physical Science or Business Studies (minimum Level 4). Crucially, candidates must not be currently employed, enrolled in any qualifying institution, or hold a post‑matric qualification. To apply, learners must submit a certified ID, matric certificate, a SAQA/NLRD verification report, and a CV before the closing date.

Successful learners will be immersed in the administrative functions that keep a major utility running. Day‑to‑day duties include managing office records, handling correspondence and mails, preparing reports and presentations, capturing data, and maintaining electronic filing systems. Learners will also assist with meeting planning, take minutes, monitor departmental projects, and maintain professional communication with staff and the public. These practical tasks are designed to build both technical competence in Microsoft Word, Excel and e‑mail systems and soft skills such as customer service, written and verbal communication, and time management.

Beyond individual development, the learnership supports Rand Water’s broader skills strategy under the National Skills Development Strategy III. By investing in scarce and critical skills at NQF Level 5, the programme helps create employment pathways while strengthening the water sector’s capacity to serve 12 million consumers. Participants gain workplace exposure within a large utility context—a valuable stepping stone for careers in public service, administration, and corporate support functions.

Applicants should be cautious of fraudulent recruitment activity; Rand Water emphasises that no payment is required for applications and encourages verification of vacancies on the official website. The learnership not only equips young people with a formal qualification and practical experience, but also promotes integrity and public service values—preparing graduates to contribute meaningfully to both their communities and the national economy.
