Job Purpose

To undergo training in the areas of law enforcement, and upon successful completion, to serve as a Constable with the eThekwini Municipality Metro Police.

 

Key Responsibility Areas

Constable (Level I)

 

Perform armed surveillance of streets and public areas, enforcing laws as needed.

Respond to vehicle accident scenes, fires, family violence incidents, bomb scares, and other emergencies.

Arrest, detain, and process suspects, ensuring proper documentation and evidence collection.

Control and direct traffic, enforcing parking regulations and bylaws.

Attend court to provide evidence as required.

Participate in joint law enforcement exercises with various agencies.

 

Handle administrative and other related functions as assigned.

Essential Requirements

Education: Grade 12 (NQF Level 4) or equivalent.

Qualifications: A service-related qualification approved by an authority such as the South African Police Service.

License: Valid motor vehicle driving license.

Age: Candidates should be between 18 and 35 years old.

Criminal Record: Must not have any previous criminal convictions.

Training: Successful completion of a probationary period of 12 months and passing the prescribed Constable Basic Training Course with at least a 50% pass mark.

 

Physical Fitness: Candidates must pass a physical fitness assessment and medical examination.

Physical Requirements

Perform law enforcement and traffic control duties, including apprehending offenders and controlling traffic.

Pass a physical fitness assessment (2.5 km run, sit-ups, push-ups, 10x25m sprints with a pass mark of 40%).

Must be physically fit to undertake the duties of the role.

 

Special Conditions

Candidates must be willing to work shifts covering all hours of the day and night.
