YOUTH ENGAGEMENT FACILITATOR

 

EIGHTEEN (18) MONTHS FIXED-TERM CONTRACT

 

PHILIPPI VILLAGE: MOBILE SERVICES (FASTPREP)

 

The Desmond Tutu Health Foundation (DTHF) is dedicated to excellence in research, treatment, training, and prevention of HIV and related infections in Southern Africa. We are seeking a dynamic Youth Engagement Facilitator to join our team in Philippi Village on a fixed-term contract basis.

 

Overview:

As a Youth Engagement Facilitator, you will be responsible for recruiting, retaining, and co-creating projects with young people in the Klipfontein/Mitchells Plain area. This role involves frequent community dialogues, establishing and maintaining a youth PrEP club, and actively engaging with adolescents within the health sector.

 

Minimum Requirements:

 

Grade 12 Certificate or Equivalent

Ages 18-29

1+ year experience in recruiting participants in a research/NGO environment

1+ year experience working with adolescents in the health sector

 

Knowledge of HIV/AIDS, including PrEP

Familiarity with public health and community resources

Proficiency in MS Office (Word and Excel)

Fluency in English and isiXhosa

Excellent communication, public speaking, and administrative skills

Ability to build interpersonal relationships and maintain rapport

Strong planning, organizing, and client-focused mindset

Detail-oriented with a passion for community engagement

Willingness to travel locally and work irregular hours

Advantageous:

 

Valid Driver’s License (code8)

Knowledge of Klipfontein/Philippi area

Good Clinical Practice (GCP) certification

Responsibilities:

 

Recruit potential FastPrEP study participants and coordinate community dialogues

Provide support and a welcoming environment for all participants

Oversee the FastPrEP youth club and assist in demand creation materials

Assist in conducting participatory research in the community

Liaise with study coordinators, youth Community Advisory Board, and other stakeholders

 

Ensure adherence to Good Clinical Practice Standards and maintain participant confidentiality

Provide basic information about PrEP and HIV/ART education to participants

Accurately record study-related data and assist with filing research forms
