At present, the immigration situation in SA is serious. The SA government has commenced the process of expelling foreign nationals from the country by imposing an expiration date for ZEP holders, a move backed by the local populace. Nonetheless, ZEP holders and Simba, a lawyer from Zimbabwe, have challenged the deadlines in court.

The original end date was December 31, 2022. Despite this, Minister of Home Affairs A pushed delayed the deadlines to June 2023. The Minister asserts that the deadlines were extended to provide ZEP holders with additional time to get new permits to remain in South Africa. During this time, no permit holders will be detained, arrested, or deported, according to the Minister.
Legal immigrants should not be hounded if they have the necessary documents. In South Africa, however, there are organisations and people who believe that all non-South Africans should be deported. According to the Minister, however, ZEP holders are shielded from harassment by locals due to their legal authority to be in the nation. Since Zimbabweans are given sufficient time to seek other visas, it is possible that they will not travel. Those who believe they will vanish should abandon hope.
