eMpangeni, March 2, 2026 – In a powerful display of faith and solidarity, prominent church leaders from KwaZulu-Natal descended on the residence of suspended Police Minister Senzo Mchunu in eMpangeni on Monday. Their mission: to pray fervently for divine guidance as Mchunu prepares for his crucial reappearance at the Madlanga Commission on March 28.

Mchunu, a key figure in South Africa’s law enforcement landscape, was suspended in July 2025 amid serious allegations of misconduct tied to police operations and oversight failures. The Madlanga Commission, probing high-level corruption and inefficiencies in the South African Police Service (SAPS), has kept the nation on edge with its revelations. Mchunu’s testimony could sway outcomes, making this moment pivotal.

Led by Archbishop Thabo Makgoba and local pastors from the Inkatha Freedom Party-aligned churches, the delegation filled Mchunu’s home with hymns and intercessory prayers. “We come not to judge, but to lift him up in the name of Jesus,” declared Pastor Nomusa Zuma, invoking Psalm 23: “The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.” Mchunu, visibly moved, knelt alongside his family, thanking the leaders for their spiritual support during this trial.

This visit underscores the deep intertwining of faith and politics in KwaZulu-Natal, where church influence often bridges divides. Critics question the timing, seeing it as political maneuvering, but supporters hail it as biblical restoration—echoing Proverbs 24:16: “For though the righteous fall seven times, they rise again.”

As South Africa grapples with crime and governance woes, Mchunu’s ordeal tests resilience. Will prayer pave the way for redemption, or will the commission deliver justice? The nation watches
