a heart-wrenching incident that has gripped South Africa, a horrific car accident on the R54 near the Vaal River claimed the lives of several children last week. Yet amid the devastation, one tiny survivor stands as a beacon of hope: 6-year-old Thabo Mokoena, who walked away with minor injuries. “He survived the Vaal accident – we thank God! 🙏🙏” his mother, Lerato Mokoena, tearfully shared on social media, her post going viral as families across the nation unite in prayer.

The crash unfolded around 8 PM on a rain-slicked road. Eyewitnesses described a minibus taxi veering off course, flipping into a ditch near Vereeniging. Six children from a local church youth group perished at the scene, with parents mourning the loss of their young ones. Thabo, strapped in the back, was found conscious by rescuers, shielded inexplicably from the mangled wreckage. “Doctors called it a miracle. No broken bones, just bruises,” said paramedic Sipho Ndlovu. “That boy is God’s warrior.”

Lerato recounted the horror: “I got the call and rushed there. Seeing Thabo sitting up, smiling through tears – it was divine intervention. Psalm 91:11 says, ‘For He will command His angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways.’ That’s our story.” The family, devout Christians from Sebokeng, held a thanksgiving service yesterday, drawing hundreds who sang hymns and shared testimonies.

As investigations into the crash continue – focusing on speeding and poor visibility – Thabo’s survival sparks national reflection on road safety and faith. “Most kids died, but my boy lives to tell God’s glory,” Lerato added. In a country scarred by accidents, this tale reminds us: hope endures. Share your prayers below
