Woolworths Loaf Of Bread That Costs R52 Cause A Stir

Woollies have always turned heads with their products based on how expensive they are. They are like the Gucci store of groceries. Really it is expensive to the point we don’t know why. Also, they are people who actually go there and come back with a loaded trolley. Then you ask yourself what is wrong with them, why would someone fill a trolley at Woolies that has crazy prices? Well, that is a question for another day.

The shop is so expensive that South Africans who live in the townships have labelled it as a shop for white people only. They call it that because they would never walk in there and buy something while Pick & Pay, Shoprite and Cambridge exist.

Now over the weekend, a picture of Gluten free bread from Woolies made rounds on social media as people were shocked by its price of it. The price of the bread was R52,99.

Those who don’t know what Gluten Free bread is. Gluten-free bread is the bread that does not contain any gluten. Gluten is a type of protein found in some grains such as wheat, rye, and barley. This protein is responsible for binding bread, retaining its moisture, and providing a soft texture. Bread and other baked goods typically use flour from grains such as wheat.

You could tell that most people couldn’t care less about the Gluten-free part as the price shocked them to the core. They knew Woolies was expensive but this took the cup for them.

Let’s be honest really if you go to shops like Shoprite or Cambridge and buy their branded loaves of bread you can come out 6 or 7 loaves from the R52,99.

All in all, this paints two pictures of our beautiful country. It’s either we have rich people in our country or we just have stingy people who would never spend so much on anything but bread.
